USA Basketball: Good Chance?
With the Olympics kicking off, and China blowing everyone out of the water with the opening ceremonies (which at one point I thought to myself "Now they're just showing off"), it's time to focus on the actual sports. I could delve into swimming, talk about Michael Phelps, but I really don't know enough about it. Same with gymnastics. So I'll talk about something I know: Basketball.
Called 'The Redeem Team' by some, USA is looking to 'redeem' themselves after a third place finish in Athens. So what's different: Larry Brown out, Coach K in. Chris Paul, Deron Williams. Kobe's back. You got Lebron, 'Melo, D-Wade. You got Boozer. Dwight Howard. Superstars. But how does that translate to the international game? It depends. Can these perennial scorers (and guys not known for their defense) score enough? I think you'll see a lot of Deron Williams. He's quick, but he's big. Kobe has to be the lockdown defender that he can be. They only have one true center in Howard. It's not the '92 Dream Team. You just got to hope that these guys have enough chemistry to win some games. If they can play team defense, play unselfish offensive basketball, they have a shot. But you don't know with all these stars. I'm not going to make any predictions. Not after Athens. Because anything can happen. Let's see. Let's wait. Let's hope, that Americans can be proud of basketball once again.
