Offseason Plans-White Sox
The White Sox are having a great year. How will they improve in the offseason? Let's take a look.
WHITE SOX OFFSEASON PLANS:
Who will they bring back?: Juan Uribe and Orlando Cabrera won't be back. Joe Crede could go either way, depending on the market for him. Ken Griffey Jr. won't be back, in all likelihood. Toby Hall will be back as the backup. Jim Thome, unless he gets the vesting option with 564 PA's, won't be back.
Who will they get?: They need a stopgap shortstop, until Gordon Beckham is ready. Or they could move Alexi Ramierz to short, and pick up a second basemen. A centerfielder is needed. I could see Mark Kotsay. Pitching has been really good this year, so maybe a bullpen arm or two.
Projected '09 Rotation:
Buehrle
Danks
Floyd
Vazquez
Contreras
Projected '09 Lineup:
Pierzynski, C
Konerko, 1B
Loretta, 2B
Ramierez, SS
Crede, 3B
Quentin, LF
Kotsay, CF
Dye, RF
Thome/Swisher, DH
Relievers/Other Acquisitions:
Lieber, SP/RP
Mota, RP
They're having a great year, and that should continue into next year. Next up: Twins.

what do u guys think of carl pavano?

Swisher DHing on a regular basis sours the trade, especially if 2/3 of the prospects pan out well.
The Sox have the cash to sign a Hudson or an Ellis, why would they get Loretta instead?

Obviously Hudson and Ellis are better than Loretta. But they’ll want long term deals, and Gordon Beckham/Alexi Ramierz are the middle infielders of the future

I think they might give Mark Ellis a 3 year deal with good money ($25M?). That would give Beckham some time to work his way through the minors. I agree with you that Alexei Ramirez would then be their Shortstop. If they do sign a guy like Kotsay, I could see them trying to trade Nick Swisher; if they pay some of his contract, they might be able to get some good players in return. Then, they would go out and find a DH. They’re saving a lot of money without Jim Thome; they could decide to bring in Pat Burrell for that role. Their rotation is great, so I don’t see them doing anything there. I agree that they need bullpen help; someone like Brian Fuentes might do the trick.
