Offseason Plans-Rangers
I strongly feel that the Rangers are a few pitchers away from contending. Let's see how they will do in the offseason.
RANGERS OFFSEASON PLANS:
Who will they bring back?: I highly doubt that they will bring back Hank Blalock. Milton Bradley should be back, although it will be at a high price. They did spend 252 million on ARod, so the do have the money.
Who will they get?: I think they will be big players in the offseason. And pitching will lead the way. They could be players in the CC Sabathia Sweepstakes. Same with the KROD sweepstakes. They could make a run at Jon Garland, a cheaper, but still solid pitcher. Same with Ryan Dempster. Could Kerry Wood, the native son, come down to Texas? I think they will try to trade Kevin Millwood and/or Vicente Padilla.
Projected '09 Rotation:
Sabathia
Garland
Padilla
Gabbard
McCarthy
Projected '09 Lineup:
Laird/Saltalamacchia, C
Davis, 1B
Kinsler, 2B
Young, SS
Casey Blake, 3B
Murphy, LF
Hamilton, CF
Cruz/Boggs/Byrd, RF
Bradley, DH
Relievers/Other Acquisitions:
KROD, RP
Juan Rincon, RP
This team will be really, really good, especially if they can upgrade their pitching. Next up is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

They’re not going to sign both Sabathia and Garland – I could see Garland, but not both. Also, I dont think theyll Casey Blake (it looks like he wants to stay with LAD), but Chris Davis is moving to 3rd to accommodate Blalock’s shoulder, and they’ll also eventually have to move Micheal Young to 3rd (dunno if it’ll be next season – if so they’ve got German Duran, Joaquin Arias, Elvis Andrus eventually who could play short). I think they’ll look for young, major-league ready pitching – and get it by trading one of their 4 catchers, most likely either Salty or Laird. I could see Salty going to the Sox for one of their young pitchers (not Buchholz or Lester but maybe Michael Bowden or Justin Masterson), or maybe one of them to the Marlins, who also have a great need for some catching and a ton of good pitching prospects.

The Rangers will not sign Sabathia, Garland, and K-Rod.
