Phillies win
The Philadelphia Phillies have won the 2008 World Series, defeating the Tampa Rays 4-1. It's been a great year for baseball, filled with surprises (Rays),disappointments, (Indians, Rockies), and everything in between. Philadelphia has waited a long time for a championship. It has it. I have relatives in Philly who are ecstatic. The Phillies won the best way; Pitching, Defense, Timely Hitting. It's how you win baseball games. The Philadelphia Phillies are World Champs. They deserve it. They've played great. I'm honored to have been able to see it. Congrats Phillies. Savor this Championship. And to quote the great Sam Rosen, "This one will last a lifetime!!"
Thanks for returning to The Blog of Champions!Politics
6 Days until the most important election of our time. And I can't wait until this is all over. Because, quite frankly, I'm sick and tired of talking about it. I'm sick and tired of turning on the news and seeing another attack, another false statement, another moment of division in a time where unity is needed. I'm sick and tired of going on the internet, looking at the polls, reading the AP ticker. I'm sick of it. In a time where change is being craved, where change is being preached, I feel like we're still using those politics as usual, always attacking your opponent. I want this to end. I want to know who our President will be, who will lead us to better times ahead. I'm sick of preaching to a choir that I don't know is there. I'm sick of writing about politics, when all I want to write about is sports. I'm sick of feeling this urge, this desire, this passion, this need, to speak. I want to speak about something that knows no party lines, that knows no attacks, that knows no division, that only knows unity. I want to know that everything is going to be okay. 6 days. 6 days until we get the ticker out of our heads, 6 days until we can finally stop talking about issues and finally do something about issues. 6 days until my mind can rest, and my body can relax. 6 days until the polls open. 6 days until we can see the change. 6 days until we can stop talking about change, and see it in front of our eyes. 6 days until the madness of the election cycle ends. 6 Days, folks. 6 Days. Let's make the most of these final days, and elect the right person to the highest office in the land. Let's do it. Let's end this madness and move on with our lives.
Fix Health Care
I know I've talked a lot about political issues lately, but I find this one particularly interesting. I came across this blog, entitled Fix Health Care Now. It's run by four students as part of a student project. Here's the link. Stop by, comment, and check it out. It's for a good cause.
Obama
Watch this. All 18 Minutes.
Is there any reason to hate on this guy? A guy who is 'The American Dream'. A guy who has had the same struggles as 'Joe the Plumber'. This is the 'real America', Sarah Palin. Come on. You want to call this guy a terrorist? And you want to condemn him? He is what makes America so great. He is the American Dream. He is everything that this country is built on. He had an opportunity, he seized it. He had hope, he relished in it. And you want to call him a socialist? You want to make him seem like an enemy? Jesus. Where's the love?
Rays going to World Series
As I'm sure you've heard, The Tampa Bay Rays are going to The World Series. Let me repeat that: The Tampa Bay Rays are going to the World Series. The Tampa Bay Rays are going to the World Series. And as an AL East guy, I'm stunned. To think in April that the Tampa Bay Rays were going to make the playoffs was asinine. To think they would make the World Series, well, you were crazy. It was incomprehensible. It's amazing that they are here. But, look at the talent on the team. Carlos Pena. Evan Longoria. James Shields. Matt Garza. The list goes on and on. And what strikes me as amazing is the resilliancy this team shows. I mean, they lost game 5 in heartbreaking fashion. Game 6 didn't go their way. Game 7 they were down early. But they fought. They fought. They fought just like Jonny Gomes fought in Spring Training, just like James Shields fought in Boston. The Rays were sick of their label as cellar dwellars, and proved everyone wrong. Amazing. Going into the year, Red Sox-Phillies seemed like a pretty good prediction. Rays-Phillies? You'd be out of your mind. The Rays are for real folks. They've been real since day 1. And they're not going anywhere. Not for awhile. Congrats Rays. You taught us all how to fight, and never take no for an answer.
Palin Rap
You guys have probably seen this by now, but its so funny.
This was hilarious. Hope you enjoyed.
Why Joe the Plumber is the biggest Wild Card
By now, I'm sure you've heard of Joe the Plumber. You know Joe. He's your average Middle-Class concerned patriotic American. Except he's the most famous of them all. Joe the Plumber has a chance to change the election in McCain's favor--If they play this right.
The McCain Campaign should focus on 'Joe the Plumber'. Make him a character, make him an idol. Have people who know his story, who've lived his story come out and tell theirs. Start an internet campaign. Start Facebook groups, MySpace groups. Make 'Joe the Plumber' viral. Have 'Joe the Plumber' speak at your rallies. He's a voice for a lot of Americans.
Look, Joe the Plumber, the man himself, won't decide the election. His character will. The people like him will. McCain has the unique opportunity (really, really, unique) to swing an election on a plumber. Joe the Plumber. Man. And I thought our economy was in trouble.
Phillies reach World Series
The Phillies reached the World Series Tonight, beating the Dodgers in 5 games. I was rooting for the Dodgers, but this is great for baseball, great for Philadelphia. Congrats Phillies, you've earned it.
Alexei Cherepanov-Rest in Peace
In stunning, shocking, and saddening news this afternoon, top Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov died.He was playing in Russia, when, and the details are iffy here, he collapsed after going off the ice on a line change. There have been conflicting reports about how the attempt at revival happened. However, that's not important. What's important is that the life of a promising, talented, and, by all accounts, a terrific young man has been lost. You know, people associate Hockey with tough, brutal men. But deep down, they're humans. And today, we lost a member of the hockey community. It's hard to even comprehend. A 19 year old kid lost his life. And we're forced to deal with the tough task of realizing that life is indeed short. We have to seize our opportunities when we can. Life is too short to have it pass by. Alexei Cherepanov had his whole life in front of him. NHL stardom, fame and fortune were awaiting him. He cannot have that. He cannot enjoy what was ahead. So please, pray for Alexei Cherepanov. Pray for the next victim of an untimely death. Life is too short not to. Life is too short to look at it through the rear view window. Alexei, Rest in Peace. You'll be missed.
