‘We’re going to take him out of the game’
Those are the words of LSU line man Ricky-Jean Francois, who threatened action against Florida QB Tim Tebow. Francois said, "If we get a good shot on [Tebow], we're going to try our best to take him out of the game," Jean-Francois said Monday, according to the Orlando Sentinel's Web site. "With his size and his heart, it's hard to get a clean shot.
"I think every lineman wants to get a good hit on a Heisman Trophy winner."
And here is where Jean-Francois' comments crossed the line. Look, I understand the desire to beat Big Bad Florida. And to beat College Football Idol Tim Tebow. But you don't try to knock him out the game. In fact, the best way to beat Florida and send a message is to beat them with Tebow under center. Ricky-Jean Francois now looks like the enemy. He sounds like a man who wants to hurt Tebow. That's the last thing you want, firing up Florida, and having the world turn against you. You're digging a hole LSU. And these comments only make the ditch deeper.
