Election Ethics
The ethics of elections have always been shady in my mind. Just look at any of the ads from any campaign, and you'll know what I'm talking about. The McCain-Palin Campaign is, I think, causing a strong divide among Americans when unity is needed. Palin thinks its right to criticize Obama for his loose, uncomfirmed ties to former radical terrorist Bill Ayers. Funny thing is, when Ayers was terrorizing the nation, Obama was 8. And Ayers was recently named Chicago Citizen of the Year (Funny, huh?). That's not the point. The point is that Palin, and to a lesser extent John McCain, is allowing crowds at rallies to say, "traitor, terrorist, treason, liar, off with his head." In a time of economic peril, that's not what we need. We need strength, unity, a common focus, not divisive attacks on a candidate. I do have to applaud, however, John McCain for trying to calm down the Anti-Obama crowds, saying at a rally, "He's a decent, family man, a citizen that I just happen to have disagreements with (him) on fundamental issues and that's what this campaign is all about. I have to tell you, he is a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as president of the United States."
Finally, some honesty! How remarkable! Because, in all seriousness, that's what we need. I've said before that all this backstabbing, criticizing, and election nonsense does no one good. And, amazing to think that in 2008, we're still a racist nation. C'mon America. C'mon McCain-Palin. Can't we all just get along? Because in the long run, it will help. Elections, by nature, have attacks, attacks about ideals, attacks about voting records. And that's fine. I want to know if someone voted for something I agree with. I want to know what someone thinks about health care. But, is it helping to attack someone's personality? Someone's name? Because in essence, that's what they are doing. They re attacking his race, his name, his loose ties. Shut up. Don't encourage the crowd to say 'off with his head'. You know, they said, with regard to the Ayers thing, something along the lines of that 'Obama sees America as so imperfect that he pals around with terrorists'. Well, you guys see America as so imperfect that you can encourage violent verbal attacks against opponent. Where are the ethics there, my friends? You want to encourage change? You want to give some straight talk? Condemn these attacks. Say you made a mistake, and you should go back to politics. Not only will it score you some points, but you'll be doing the right thing as well. And America, please stop this. Say to yourself, ' How would I feel if I was being called a terrorist?' Not good, right? It's simple human decency. So please, McCain, Palin, America, heed my call. Stop this nonsense. You'll feel better, and more importantly, America will be better.
