Finding the Right coach
A lot of readers have emailed me about the Tennessee speculation of the new coach. They've mentioned Lane Kiffin, former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron, ousted Clemson coach Terry Bowden, Greg Schiano from Ruthers, Ron English, D Coordinator of Louisville, Jim Mora Jr, head coach in waiting for the Seahawks, Mike Holmgren, Mike Nolan, Brian Billick, Lou Holtz, and Ty Willingham. Out of that list, Ron English, Lane Kiffin, and Greg Schiano would be my top choices. But a source told me earlier about Mike Leach, whom I thought would be a perfect fit. I also mentioned Turner Gill, another strong candidate. While Tennessee needs a good coach, they also need the right coach. Who is the right coach? A good recruiter? A disciplinarian? A young coach? A veteran coach? Personally, I'd go with A good recruiter and a young coach. Which is why Turner Gill would be at the top of the list. Another name would be Mike Gundy, head coach of OK State. All remember him for his 'I'm a Man!' speech of a year ago. But he's also a pretty good coach. What about the pro ranks? Dallas Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett would be a nice fit. So would Giants Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The consensus I get from sources close to the situtation, is they're going to go hard after Mike Leach. If I was running it though, Turner Gill would be at the top of my list.

I agree entirely. Turner Gill is the right fit for UT. He has turned the University of Buffalo program around 100 percent. Before getting Gill as head coach, UB would be doing well if they would win two games a year. If UT doesn’t get him, another major university will.
