Steelers-Cardinals Prediction
The Super Bowl always has a lot of intrigue, but Super Bowl XLIII has a lot for me. You've got the menacing defense of the Steelers, pitted up against the high-flying offense of the Cardinals. This game might finally decide if defense truly wins championships.
The Steelers defense is pretty much unstoppable. James Harrison, Troy Polamalu, LaMarr Woodley, and other make up a defense that is one of the best I've ever seen. They're fast and hard hitting, and almost never seem to be out of position. On the other side, the Cardinals offense is pretty much unstoppable. Larry Fitzgerald might be the best receiver since Jerry Rice, and Kurt Warner is reliving his St. Louis days. Add in a productive Edgerrin James, and Anquan Boldin, and you've got the makings of a top offense. However, can the Steelers stop them? Are there corners good enough? Will they have to keep Polamalu near Fitzgerald at all times, opening up the short passing game to Boldin and Steve Breaston? I'm not sure the Steelers can stop them. They might be able to limit their production, but they can't stop them. I also think Kurt Warner will be able to beat the blitz consistently, as he is one of the best in the game at doing that.
The Steelers offense, playing with a banged up Hines Ward, is solid. Nothing special. Willie Parker needs a big game. The Cardinals defense has been playing well. This is a pretty even matchup. The Cardinals have to blitz, blitz, and blitz some more, to keep Ben Rothlisberger under pressure--take the model of last year's Giants. Blitz, and when you don't get to him, hit him hard. I think Big Ben is very banged up, more than he says he is, and a couple of hits won't help. If Hines Ward can't go, rookie Limas Sweed will have to step up.
There is something to be said for momentum, and the Cardinals have it. Then again, the Steelers have been playing well in all their playoff games. I've been wrestling with this for two weeks, but after a lot of thought, I have to go with the Steelers. Experience, and a superior defense will lead them there. Final Score: Steelers 21, Cardinals 20. Enjoy the Super Bowl everyone.
Best Super Bowl Ads
Aside from the game itself, the commercials are my favorite part of the Super Bowl. Over at SI, they've compiled a list of the best ads. I'll place them here for your convenience.

Bruce’s Still Got It
Have had a chance to listen to the new Bruce Springsteen album, Working on a Dream, in it's entirety, and I have to say, it's great. Classic Bruce. Songs like 'Outlaw Pete', 'This Life', 'The Wrestler', 'Working on a Dream', and ' What Love Can Do' are sure to be instant classics. 'Outlaw Pete' is an eight minute masterpiece, combinig classic Bruce lyrics, with an awesome melody. The orchestra behind it doesn't hurt. 'The Wrestler', featured in the movie, is also classic Bruce. He does it again. I thought Magic was great. This might be better.
Speaking of wrestlers, finally saw The Wrestler. Mickey Rourke gives the performance of a lifetime. I know he didn't win the SAG award. But he has to win the Oscar. You can feel the emotion of Rourke's face, feel the pain in his voice. It's one of those performances where it seems to good to be true. But it was really that good. Just, incredible.
Torre Blasts Yanks
Joe Torre is talking about his years with the Yankees, and he's not holding back. In his new book 'The Yankee Years', he talks badly about A-Rod, calling him 'A-Fraud', and how A-Rod obsessed over Derek Jeter. He blasted Brian Cashman for not having his back, and other bad things about the Steinbrenner family. He should not be talking. The Yankees made him. They gave him a ton of money and success, fame and championships. And now, it seems he does not care. It's terrible. As a Yankee fan, it disappoints me. It disappoints me because Joe Torre seemed like such a great person, someone you wanted to emulate. He made a bad career move here. Wow. So much for character.
100-0
I'm sure you've heard of this: The Texas school that beat another high school 100-0. Before I get into the latest news about this, I want to comment on the absolute insanity. You don't ever have to run up the score on team, especially when it's a school that specializes with kids with learning disabilities. It's high school basketball. Move on. Let them score, I don't care. And while there's substantive debate over whether the losing school should even be playing against a much better school. Doesn't matter in my mind. The winning school should not feel good about the win. The school thinks it's bad.
"It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened," Kyle Queal, the head of the school, said in a statement, adding the forfeit was requested because "a victory without honor is a great loss."
Now, the coach of the winning team was fired. The reason wasn't specified, but some will say it was over the coach's remarks:
"In response to the statement posted on The Covenant School Web site, I do not agree with the apology or the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel embarrassed or ashamed," Grimes wrote in the e-mail, according to the newspaper. "We played the game as it was meant to be played. My values and my beliefs would not allow me to run up the score on any opponent, and it will not allow me to apologize for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity.
Crazy. He deserves to be fired. Hopefully, a lot of schools can learn a lesson from this: Don't run up the score.

Buffalo Wing Shortage?
Noooooo!!!
From CBS.com:
"It may be pretty hard to stomach, particularly on Super Bowl Sunday, but this year Buffalo wings are in short supply.
They're spicy but sweet, crispy yet luscious – tasty bits of poultry that no Super Bowl party should ever be without. But chicken wing lovers have a bone to pick, because the price of chicken wings is soaring.
"The price is going up," Atomic Wings owner Adam Lippin says. "The price is going up 30 percent in the last three months."
The demand for wings is way up, but the supply is equally way down. This is partly due to a major source of buffalo wings – a poultry farm in Texas – recently filed for bankruptcy, blamed on the economic downturn.
Now, there may not be enough chicken wings for the year's biggest football game.
"We're going to have to 'wing' it somehow because my buddies can't live without their wings," chicken wing aficionado Allen Porter says. "[Otherwise] Super Bowl will be a bust."
At Atomic Wings in Lower Manhattan, their distributor has set aside 500 cases for the big day, Feb. 1. Because they are a chain, they got the first crack at the tasty little tidbits.
Unfortunately, smaller bars and restaurants may not have enough Buffalo wings to go around – so customers' feathers might be ruffled.
"What's a Super Bowl without a chicken?" wing-lover Dana Gilliam ponders.
Some chicken wing fans up in Buffalo, the home of the chicken wing, are so fed up with rising prices that they're calling for a chicken wing boycott on Jan. 26th. Unfortunately, it's something people don't know anything about.
Not surprisingly, many New Yorkers were furious when they found out.
"Protest – we want our chicken wings" one resident said. "We want our chicken wings!"
So lovers of buffalo chicken wings are hoping on a "wing and a prayer" that there will be enough to go around and they won't have to "wing" it with substitute munchies on Super Bowl Sunday.
At Atomic Wings, which has nine restaurants with take-out in the NYC area, the price of chicken wings hasn't gone up in the last year. However, at other restaurants, they may have doubled – so be on the lookout for higher-than-expected prices for those succulent Buffalo wings. "
This is awful! I love Buffalo Wings! What will we do?
