Steve McNair Shot, Killed
In sad, tragic news, former MVP QB Steve McNair was shot and killed Saturday afternoon. He was 36. Another woman was also shot and killed.
Owner Bud Adams said:
“We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair’s passing today,” Titans owner Bud Adams said in a statement. “He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl.”
Commissioner Roger Goodell:
“We don’t know the details, but it is a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to the families involved,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.
Former Teammate Samari Rolle:
“If you were going to draw a football player, the physical part, the mental part, everything about being a professional, he is your guy,” former Ravens and Titans teammate Samari Rolle said. “I can’t even wrap my arms around it. It is a sad, sad day. The world lost a great man today.”
I can't even begin to fathom this. McNair retired in 2007. He was an MVP. He brought his team to the Super Bowl. He was a good guy. He played through injuries. He's now dead. McNair didn't deserve to die. No, he deserved to live, to relish in his football glory, not be slain. McNair didn't deserve to die. No, he deserved to live, to make an impact off the field, not to be shot. McNair is 36. He has 4 kids. Those 4 kids didn't deserve this. Neither did his family and friends. He was one of the toughest players to play the game. Injuries didn't stop him. Nothing did, really. We should all be lucky we had a chance to see this great one play. We should pray for his family. Our thoughts are with him. Rest in Peace Steve McNair. The world knows you were gone too soon.
