Jays Willing to Listen to Offers for Halladay
The Blue Jays said today that they would be willing to listen to trade offers for star pitcher Roy Halladay. Said GM JP Ricciardi:
"If someone wants Roy and they're willing to blow us away, we'd be willing to listen, that's all I'm saying. That doesn't mean we'd trade him, that doesn't mean we're looking to trade him. All it means is we'd be willing to listen."
So willing to listen. In other words, they're trying to trade him. I think it's a good move. The Jays are quickly falling out of the playoff race, and they can valuable pieces for someone of Halladay's caliber. Every team will be interested, but here are the teams who will be the most interested:
Dodgers: They have a chance to win a World Series this year, and he would be the guy to put them over the top.
Phillies: They need pitching, badly, and he would provide it for them.
White Sox: They were willing to make a deal for Jake Peavy earlier. I don't think that would change.
Giants: They have the prospects to get a deal done, and this would propel them into the Wild Card.
All these teams will have to give up a TON of prospects, and quality prospects at that. It will be a steep price, but it's worth it. It'll be interesting to see how this progresses.
