Live Tweet Thoughts on “The Family”: Updated with Video
The Rachel Maddow show continues to do a tremendous job reporting on "The Family" scandal that is a central part of John Ensign and Mark Sanford's affairs. The video from tonight's segment won't be available until later. I'll post it then. But I tweeted thoughts on my Twitter account. I'll post them now.
GOP Rep Wamp talking about how The Family is a bipartisan group that is accountable to each other. It's not secret, but we can't say anything
He's saying its not secretive, but it's the only way it can exist. crazy
Steve Largent now involved?!?! Apparently he was one of the guys that told Ensign to break off affair
Members have 'license' to confront one another about shady things in life, according to Largent
Of course, in "The Family", well being comes first. didn't seem that way against Clinton
Family members can't talk, but they are accountable to the family
Jeff Sharlet, author of the book "The Family" now on
He says accountability is accountability to other members
outside of Family, accountable to public. In family, accountable to higher calling. they believe they are chosen by God, he says
There is a publicly invisible, privately visible prayer group that has veto rights on your life
They are basically a Christian Mafia, Sharlet says. More invisible, more influence they can have
Says documents say "Destroy after Reading" highly secretive group
veto groups called "prayer cells"
first loyalty is to "The Family". things are dealt with internally nothing is ever public
Here are my thoughts: radical, secretive, strange, scary that so many public officials are involved.
Again, when the video is up I will post it here, so look for that. I also want to commend the Rachel Maddow show once again for exposing this controversy that is slowly starting to get more airplay.
UPDATE: (12:21 EST) Here is the video I talked about above. Watch it here:
