Sellers Apologizes for Throwing American Flag
Mike Sellers, fullback on the Redskins, apologized for throwing the American Flag into the ground during pre game warm ups.
"I made a mistake by setting it down the way I did, and I apologize if I offended anybody out there," Sellers said. "I was asked to bring it out, last minute, didn't know who to give it to. I got hyped up and put the flag down. It was in the heat of the moment."
I believe Sellers when he says that he didn't mean to disrespect the flag. I do. I think it was just a stupid act. You're taught from a young age to respect the American flag. The freedom it symbolizes. Sellers didn't do that. Am I offended? No. But I think that Sellers offended some people, even if he didn't mean to do it. He's kind of in a no-win position here. He did disrespect the flag, and there are going to be people who are upset with that. But, there's nothing more he can do that apologize. If Sellers was a more well known player, this would've been a bigger issues. Luckily for him, he's not.
