Top 10 Super Bowl Foods
In honor of the upcoming Super Bowl, I thought I would share with you one of my other favorite pastimes: Eating. Yes, I love food, and the Super Bowl food is one of the best. So, here is my list of the Top 10 Super Bowl Foods. And yes, you must eat all of these on Super Bowl Sunday (just kidding.)
10. Vegetables and Dip
I'm not a big vegetable guy, but if you give me some ranch dressing, I'll eat it up. My favorite is carrots with ranch dip. Tip to newbies: Don't fill up on vegetables. I've made that mistake more than once. Eat a few, but save room for the better stuff.
9. Sushi
Sushi may be not be typical, but one year, when my house had a leak, sushi was the most convenient. It's easy to eat, and it tastes very good.
8. Popcorn
Popcorn may be more of a movie food, but it serves its purpose well. Easy to eat, easy to fill up on as well. Be wary of eating too much.
7. Nachos
I'm not a big nacho fan in general, but I make an exception for Super Bowl Sunday. This is a halftime food; too messy to eat while watching the game on the couch. Devour it during halftime.
6. Chips and Salsa
I'm not big into spicy food, so the salsa has to be mild, or else I won't eat it. I tend to fill up on chips and salsa, which doesn't leave room for much else. I prefer the Tostitos "Hint of Lime" chips.
5. Peanuts
Has to be the salted, roasted kind. But, I devour these. Almost too much. They are very addicting.
4. Buffalo Wings
Yes, Buffalo wings are a bit low on the list. But, like I said, I don't like things too spicy. Buffalo wings tend to be very spicy. But, one or two and I'm okay. They are tasty.
3. Chex Mix
I love Chex Mix, and always have. I'm not exactly sure what's in it, but I know it's good. Really good
2. Chips and Guacamole.
I love guacamole. A lot. Use Rotel for a more authentic taste.
1. Fried Chicken
The Must-Have at all Super Bowl parties. Can be homemade, from a local deli, or from KFC. I don't care. I just want it. A lot of it.
What are your Super Bowl must have foods?
Thanks for returning to The Blog of Champions!Buffalo Wing Shortage?
Noooooo!!!
From CBS.com:
"It may be pretty hard to stomach, particularly on Super Bowl Sunday, but this year Buffalo wings are in short supply.
They're spicy but sweet, crispy yet luscious – tasty bits of poultry that no Super Bowl party should ever be without. But chicken wing lovers have a bone to pick, because the price of chicken wings is soaring.
"The price is going up," Atomic Wings owner Adam Lippin says. "The price is going up 30 percent in the last three months."
The demand for wings is way up, but the supply is equally way down. This is partly due to a major source of buffalo wings – a poultry farm in Texas – recently filed for bankruptcy, blamed on the economic downturn.
Now, there may not be enough chicken wings for the year's biggest football game.
"We're going to have to 'wing' it somehow because my buddies can't live without their wings," chicken wing aficionado Allen Porter says. "[Otherwise] Super Bowl will be a bust."
At Atomic Wings in Lower Manhattan, their distributor has set aside 500 cases for the big day, Feb. 1. Because they are a chain, they got the first crack at the tasty little tidbits.
Unfortunately, smaller bars and restaurants may not have enough Buffalo wings to go around – so customers' feathers might be ruffled.
"What's a Super Bowl without a chicken?" wing-lover Dana Gilliam ponders.
Some chicken wing fans up in Buffalo, the home of the chicken wing, are so fed up with rising prices that they're calling for a chicken wing boycott on Jan. 26th. Unfortunately, it's something people don't know anything about.
Not surprisingly, many New Yorkers were furious when they found out.
"Protest – we want our chicken wings" one resident said. "We want our chicken wings!"
So lovers of buffalo chicken wings are hoping on a "wing and a prayer" that there will be enough to go around and they won't have to "wing" it with substitute munchies on Super Bowl Sunday.
At Atomic Wings, which has nine restaurants with take-out in the NYC area, the price of chicken wings hasn't gone up in the last year. However, at other restaurants, they may have doubled – so be on the lookout for higher-than-expected prices for those succulent Buffalo wings. "
This is awful! I love Buffalo Wings! What will we do?
Spam
Now with the Tomato outbreak, the world can now move onto spam? So says David Grimes, columnist for the Herald Tribune in Florida. Makes sense, right? Spam will always live on, and without those tomatoes, maybe spam can be the option.
By the way, I'll be back for my Lakers-Celtics halftime thoughts.
Tomatoes
I hate this whole tomato salmonella thing.(By the way, the reporter is Kathryn Brown, who, in about 2 months, will be my cousin-in-law, which I guess is the correct terminology.) I love tomatoes. I think most people do. Sometimes there's nothing better than just fresh sliced tomatoes, maybe a little olive oil, salt and pepper. Even thinking about that gets my mouth watering. I can deal with salmonella in chicken. Because you don't eat raw chicken. At least I don't. But I rarely, if ever, eat cooked tomatoes. I just don't like them cooked. Does this mean ketchup is off limits? Tomato sauce? And the fact that the tomato industry is suffering is a joke. Well, I genuinely feel bad for them. But I had no idea there was an entire industry.
Orange Juice
Have you guys seen this Tropicana Orange Juice Ad?
I don't know about you, but that seems over the top. Don't get me wrong, sometimes there's nothing better than a good glass of OJ. But this seems way over done. Who knew orange juice could evoke that kind of emotion?
Food
Here are some of my favorite foods:
Pasta, especially Penne a la Vodka
Any type of beef, preferably hamburgers
Love Sushi, and Chinese food
Enjoy ice cream, vanilla, and on occasion coffee
If I can recommend one food item, it is to try Black Cod Miso. Some fish mongers will sell it. You marinade the cod in the miso dressing, and it turns out to be the most tender, flavorful fish. A must-try.
I've soured on Chicken lately. Don't know why.
Love a good caesar salad.
And when I'm sick, the best thing is just plain pasta with butter. Makes me feel better right away
