Atlanta vs. Arizona

I like Atlanta. Sure, they are a feel good story. They are also a good football team. Arizona, however, is not. If they are in any other division, they are 6-10. They went 6-0 in the pitiful NFC West, 3-7 against the rest. Atlanta wins.

San Diego vs. Indy

Great matchup of two hot teams. Give me Peyton. Indy wins

Baltimore vs. Miami

Baltimore’s defense is too good, plus they beat the Dolphins earlier in the year.

Philadelphia vs. Minnesota

Tough one. If Philly plays like they did against the Cowboys, easy win. If they play like they did against the Redskins, Minnesota wins. I’m going to say Minnesota wins. Can they stop Peterson? Do not think so.

DIVISION PLAYOFFS:

If my predictions hold true, this is how it would look like.

Baltimore vs. Tennessee

They played earlier, with the Titans coming out victorious. This should be a great matchup. Home field wins out here. Tennessee wins.

Indy vs. Pittsburgh

This, if it happened, could be Super Bowl 42.5. The great Indy offense against the vaunted Pittsburgh defense. Give me Pittsburgh. Home field is tough. And defenses do win championships.

Giants vs. Atlanta

Atlanta cannot come into the Meadowlands and get a win. Too inexperienced.

Minnesota vs. Carolina

Carolina is too good.

CONFERENCE:

Titans vs Steelers

Titans. They won earlier, easily. And will win again.

Giants vs. Panthers

Giants win. ‘Earth, Wind, and Fire’ are too much to handle.

SUPER BOWL:

Giants vs. Titans

Two very easily matched teams. And I’m going with… no one. I have no idea. If this matchup does happen I’ll analyze it in depth. Until the, I hope this matchup happens. It’ll be a great game. Enjoy the playoffs.

It ties him for most all time with Brett Farve (more on him in a later post). Three MVPs is a lot. He has a Super Bowl ring, and a Super Bowl MVP. He has all sorts of record. Is he the best ever? Let’s discuss.

-Great skill set. To be even mentioned in the greats you have to be skilled. A given.

-True Leader. You want him on your side with the game on the line. Another key component of the greats.

-Consummate Pro. Won’t say or do anything stupid. 

He holds all the keys. Here is my Top Ten Best QBs of all time:

1. Johnny  Unitas

I was so excited to see ‘The Greatest Game Ever Played’ on TV, because I got a chance to see Johnny U. And even though the game was different, his passing, his precision, his accuracy, was unbelievable. That final drive was perfection. 

2. Joe Montana

He had a sense of calm about him. Throwing one of the best throws in history doesn’t hurt either.

3. John Elway

Even though he took a while to win the big game, his competitive drive, his will to win were unmatched. ‘The Drive’ was great. His drives in the Super Bowl were great as well. Clutch

4. Dan Marino

Holds all the records. If he won a Super Bowl, he’d be number one.

5. Brett Farve

Even though he has thrown the most picks, his durability is amazing.

6. Terry Bradshaw

Sure, he had help from those Steelers Defenses. But he was great in his own right.

7. Sammy Baugh

The late Baugh was the NFL’s first dual threat. And played both ways.

8.  Joe Namath

Broadway Joe delivered on his guarantee. And had a great career as well. 

9. Peyton Manning

By the end of his career, he will be top 3.

10. Jim Kelly

If he had won just one Super Bowl, he would be higher. But the fact he got to four straight Super Bowls is incredible.

Peyton isn’t the best. By the end, however, he might be.

Here’s hoping 2009 is a great year.

Now, the first order of business. Why in the world are there so many bowl games? Does anyone really watch all of them? The Papajohns.com bowl? The New Mexico Bowl? Please. I want a new system. And I want it now.

Here’s my proposal:

Top 12 teams are eligible for bowls.

Arranged in a playoff system

Two Brackets of six, picked randomly

Number one and two seeds get byes

The 4-5 game and 3-6 game are played at bowl sites under the name of the bowl. Like the Gator Bowl, Cotton Bowl, etc. 

The winner of those games goes onto play the 1 or two seed.

The Winner of that game goes into the semi-finals

Winner of those games go into Final, at the Rose Bowl.

Winner is the champion.

In other words, it is exactly like the NFL playoffs. You can keep your bowl sites with the sponsors(because, let’s face it, it’s the only reason there is not playoff), and have a clear cut winner. As for the other teams, the 6-6, 7-5 teams? Any team out of the top 12 that is 9-3 or better will play in some sort of consolation bowl, maybe the Capital One Bowl. That game will be just like the old bowl system. Thoughts?

I really do. But, if I’m not mistaken, I was one of the only ones to pick the Dolphins to make a run at the playoffs. Don’t believe me? Look here. (Granted, I also picked the Rams and Texans for breakout years. I also picked the Titans to be a disappointment. You can’t win ‘em all.) Forget about the fact that I have a potential career as an oracle. The Dolphins turnaround is unbelievable. Incredible. They went from 1-15, to potentially 11-5 and  a division title. Incredible. Was it all Parcells? Was Cam Cameron that bad? We’re not sure. The Wildcat has been great, obviously. Joey Porter is back to his Pittsburgh days. And Pennington should get MVP consideration. Whatever turned it around, I’m glad. It makes me look smart.
